Being a new mother, sometimes you will eat your own words

So, when we found out we were expecting our first child, we were very excited of course. I had a friend who had introduce to me www.babysites.com and I promptly set one up for our baby to be! In retrospect, I probably was silly at times with everything I did, but I think that is to be expected with your first pregnancy. I remember saying to a dear friend, wow, you sure have lots of pictures of your first child, you better hurry up and catch up with your second before they think you don’t love them as much. To that, I got, you just wait and see – you will think you’ll do the same for your second. As somewhat more experienced parent, I have now used that line… well, just wait and you’ll see what I mean. So, I have had to eat my words with Ryan’s. I’m not as near as good about blogging about his growth and I don’t take any near the same amount of pictures. I never did set up a babysite for Ryan. I do regret it as Kaylen’s babysite does hold lots of precious memories. I have copied everything over from her babysite to my blog (you can go back to blog and re-read any of them).

I just want to state for the record, I love Ryan just the same. People will say that the first-born is the luckiest, but sometimes I think Ryan has it easier because Kaylen’s been my guinea pig while we journey down the road of parenthood. Being a mom to Ryan has come easier since I have learned at lot with Kaylen. Unfortunately, with the two little ones, it is not as easy to just a drop of hat take photos and write blogs. The time I used to spend writing blogs and taking pictures is now taken up by Ryan.

But I at least can say, that I love each of them the same and I love on them just the same. There will never be any shortages of hugs and kisses for both of my babies!

So below, was the homepage to our babysite for Kaylen:

Welcome to our new family website. Because so many of our family and friends are long distance, we thought this would be a great way to share our journey through our first pregnancy and becoming first time parents. We hope all of you, those far and near, enjoy all the pictures and our blog as we share with you our thoughts and feelings as we make this much anticipated journey together.

We are pleased to share with you, our baby girl – Kaylen Denna Grover! She was born to us on August 22, 2008 at 2056. She weighed 5 lbs 2.3 oz and was 17 inches long.

She is a first granddaughter to excited Grandparents Herb & Laurie Grover and Orlando & Myra Browder.

She is a niece to Aunt and Uncle Amanda & Anthony, Aunt Debra, and Uncle Jeremy.

She is a great granddaugther to Hugh & Megs Pickard, Juanita Grover, and Ron & Jackie Williams. Her great grandfather Herb Grover II and great grandmother Geneva both will watch over her from heaven.

Beginnings of Kaylen Denna:Week 31

Wow – Week 31! Nine more weeks to go!
Date: 07/30/2008

We had our ultrasound on Monday. It is always so exciting getting to see her move around and to see how much she is growing!! This is week 31 for us. She is growing normally and on target. All measurements looked good. She weighs about four pounds now. They guesstimate that if she keeps on growing as she has been she will weigh about seven and half pounds if she goes full term. That makes me really happy, but they we were she might be large, but it looks like she will be about average. The lab tech showed us where she is already growing hair! I am hoping she has a full head of hair and will keep it after she is born. :o) In all of our baby readings, they said that you shine a flashlight on your tummy, that the baby will turn towards the light. So, I asked the lab tech if she knew if it was true. She said that she had heard it but had never tested it. But she said she did have a flashlight in her purse and we could try it if we wanted it. And we told her yes, we wanted to try it, but we thought they would have thought we were weirdoes if we bought in a flashlight. Well, sadly, it didn’t work. It was a little flashlight, so I’m not sure if it enough light. We were already trying to get her to move, because she had her face buried into my back, making it hard to get a good view of her face. We got a decent picture, but I just can’t wait to see what she looks like. She was also having fun playing my with rib cages as her feet where kicking away in there. Luckily, she didn’t cause me any discomfort as I hear that can be pretty painful. All in all, the pregnancy is going well. She is healthy and growing normally and that is all we could really want. I am in some discomfort as it appears my sciatic nerve is being irritated – don’t know if is her laying on that side or if is just the size of my uterus now. It is making it hard to walk. I can get around ok – I just have to limp a little everywhere. It really only hurts when I have to walk, when I am sitting or laying down I normally don’t feel any discomfort. I have been told jokingly by other that this is just practice as she will be getting on my nerves the rest of my life. LOL. At any rate, we are trying some stretching and pain management to help. If it doesn’t get better or gets worse, I might try physical therapy. But for the most part, the doctors agree the only real cure will be when she is born. I certainly don’t want her to come early, so I’ll happily bear the pain! Really, everything is going well. We are just in the slow process of getting our home ready for her. It’s exciting getting her room ready and imagining what it will be like to have her home. Just nine more weeks if she comes near her expected due date (Sept 30). We have completed our prepared birthing classes, so we are probably as prepared as we can be to what to expect for the labor and delivery process as well can. I do feel a sense of nervousness and anxiety not really knowing what is going to happen when she is ready to come into this world, but I just put my faith in God that He will get us both through it just fine! We have a couple of more classes that we are taking, but we should be finished with that soon. All in all, we are just getting so excited for her arrival and just can’t wait to welcome her to this world!! We thank all of our friends and family that have been so supportive and I know many of you are just excited as us – especially the grandparents and aunts and uncles!! We just hope that one day she will know and realize just how many people love her!

Beginnings of Kaylen Denna:It’s a girl 04/21/08

It’s a girl!!
Date: 04/21/2008

So, we had our ultrasound today. It was very exciting. I had read in all my baby updates that it is possible to tell the gender of the baby as early as week 15, but most will not check for the sex of baby until between week 18 to week 20. We are 17 weeks, so I was really hoping they be able would tell us and that baby grover would cooperate. Up until we were told it was a girl, I was convinced I was carrying a boy! Jeff and I really didn’t have any preferences either way as this is our first, so we were really excited at the news. Jeff has already shown what a protective father he is going to be as he didn’t want me to upload the picture identifing her as a girl. :o) We already had both of our girl and boy names picked out, so we knew immediately what we were going to name her. Her name is Kaylen Denna Grover. Jeff says that he will probably call her K.D. as a nick name. We choose this name because the names orginally come from one of our favorite books – “The Wizard’s First Rule” by Terry Goodkind (1st book in The Sword of Truth Series). One of the main characters is Kahlan, which we always pronounced Kaylen. We didn’t want any confusion in how to pronouce her name so we opted to change it from Kahlan to Kaylen. Denna is also a main (but more secondary) character in this book as well. We looked up the meaning of both names and Kaylen is hebrew for beloved and Denna is hebrew for valley. So, Jeff and I joked that she will be the Beloved Valley of Trees (last name grover comes from grove of trees). It was so exciting to see Kaylen moving around in my womb. You could see her moving (she didn’t stay still for long) and you could see her opening and closing her mouth. The main thing though is that she is growing normally and on schedule. Her heart seems to be developing well and has all four chambers. Her brain looks good as well (the doctor even joked we might have to send her to Harvard). The doctor did say that she is measuring a little bigger than her age, but only by about 4 days. She weighs 7 ounces and they guess that she was about 8 1/2 inches long now (they can’t get her to stretch out completely to measure her length). Jeff and I are so very thankful and grateful that she progressing normally. We feel so blessed and are very thankful for all of you that have been praying for her. We know what a difference prayer makes and Kaylen had a rough first trimester, but we know that through God’s will and everyone’s prayers that she will continue to grow heathly and strong. Again, thank you so much!!

We were both excited at the news that we are having a girl that we went a bought 2 outfits and a toy for Kaylen. They were all picked out by her daddy. I will upload all the pictures, but right now I can only upload one. The pictures are under the baby album Kaylen First Items.

The ultrasound today made it more real that we are going to be parents soon, but in some ways, it still seems unreal. Time is just going by so fast!

I just want to thank all of you that have been supporting and praying for us. It means a lot. We are so very grateful to all and can’t wait for all of you to meet God’s newest princess – Kaylen Denna Grover.

Lots of Changes – Written on February 10, 2008

So if you are reading my blog, you probably know by now, that we are expecting our first baby. We are very excited and, of course, nervous at the same time. Our main concern right now is that I stay heathly and our baby stay healthly. We know many people wait until the 3 month mark before spreading the news, but just with my health condition, we just wanted to best chance for our baby and we know from experience how much prayer works and wanted as much prayer as possible for our baby. We just found our early this week. It all started with the positive on the home pregnancy test (which was on Monday) and the very next day, I went to my primary care doctor, and had the blood test done. By Wednesday in the afternoon, we had the positive result back from the blood test and begin sharing the news with our family and friends. Both of families are very excited! Besides the big baby news, I am also quitting my job at Haycock Petroleum. My last day will be Feb. 15th. It was as very hard decision and one made before we knew we were expecting, but we still feel it is the best decision for us and although we are going through the big change in our life… we are going to continue to step out in faith and know that God is going to take care of our family. So I’m out looking for a new job and it looks like I have promising lead. Anyway, we are just so very happy right now and very happy with the direction our lives our going. We just want to say thank you in advance to all of those who will be praying for us. It means more to us then you know!

The First Trimester – Written on March 26, 2008

So.. wow. The first trimester is fastly coming to an end. It just seem like the other day I was peeing on stick to find out if I was pregnant. Now, I’m in week 13 of my pregnancy. It has not been the easiest first trimester… although I don’t have another pregnancy to compare it to. I do consider myself lucky to have not had morning sickness. I only got quezy for about 2 weeks between weeks 6-8 and then all the queziness went away. However, about a couple of weeks ago, I had a really big scare and I thought I was going to lose the baby. I ended up going to the ER due to bleeding and as it turned out I had a tear behind my placenta. There wasn’t anything they could do for me and only told me that the baby had about a 50/50 chance of making it. I remember being in somewhat kind of shock when the doctor told me that because I had just seen the ultrasound of the baby and baby grover was moving around and had a good strong heartbeat. I was put on bedrest for a few days after that. Last Monday, I had another ultrasound where I got the good news the tear was healing. So everything is looking up for now. During that ultrasound, baby grover was pretty active bouncing all around the place making it hard on the lab tech to get the baby’s measurements. Right now in my world, there is not much more comforting hearing my baby’s heartbeat. I got to hear it twice this week so far, but if all goes well, it will be another month before my next doctor’s appointment. I’m trying to take this pregnancy one step at the time and not to get caught up in the future too much. There is a lot that is going to change in our lives… but I figure one step at a time, right? I’m super anxious to find out the sex of the baby. I would like to be able to call our baby by name instead of “the baby” or “baby grover.” We do already have the names picked out. Also, looking forward to buying the first outfit for the baby. Surprising.. or maybe not, I haven’t bought one thing yet.. just waiting to find out what is is going to be. I don’t really have a preference, but ideally Jeff and I would like to have a boy and a girl. Sometimes I look at other couples that have babies already and just can’t believe we are going to have one of those really soon. My due date is Sept. 30. So, I’m just thankful the baby is healthy and doing well. I believe that I have started to feel the first flutters of baby grover. It’s comforting to feel the movement so I know the baby is doing alright. The only other thing I seem to be suffering from is headaches. I hope they go away soon. It’s hard having a headache for a good portion of the day. Anyway, I think that sums up the first trimester. This really just has brought Jeff and I to a new place in our relationship. He is truly a wonderful husband and I couldn’t ask for a better one. I just can’t believe how lucky I got some days. I just feel so grateful and blessed for this new life within me and to have a supportive husband who takes care of me when I’m not at my best.

Besides the baby stuff, for those of you that remember, I quit my last job in February, so I have been unemployed for about a month. However, today, I got the good news that I finally got a job offer. I’ll be working as a staff accountant for Marshall Retail Group. So I’m super excited to be starting a new job.

As for Jeff, he recently was promoted and is now an instructor for the Transportation Security Adminstration.. so instead of rifling through everyone’s baggage he gets to teach others how to do it! Well, there is more to his job than that, but he is in the training department.

So overall, the past few ones have been ones of big change and new suprises for both Jeff and I. But we couldn’t be more happy with the direction our lives is going and we couldn’t be more reminded of how faithful God has been to both of us.

Grace for the Moment

Once again, I am taking up reading the Bible in a year (I have yet to accomplish this). I have this Grace for the Moment Daily Bible that includes quotes from books from Max Lucado. I enjoy it alot and I loved the introduction that Max Lucado wrote for this book:

Dear Friend,

May the words of this book, God’s book, grant you eternal strength. May he steal your heart with heaven-glimpes and steel your character with strength-portions.

He will. God will meet your needs of today, today. This is his plan, help in the hour of need. Grace for the moment. The concerns of tomorrow will be met tomorrow. Provisions for next week will arrive next week. God meets the needs of the day, each day.

For that reason Jesus taught us to pray, “Give us the food we need for each day.” (Luke 11:3)

Bread represents our basic need. We need only a couple of things every day: breath, bread, a cherry-topped choclate ice cream sundae…(ok, the cherry is optional). Christ explains God’s schedule for meeting such needs. Day by day. We don’t pray for an annual allotment or monthly shipment of bread. He gives not a bakery or a truckload. He gives daily portions.

When the wilderness wandering Israelites grew hungry, he responded with daily downpours of manna and coveys of quail. God told them to gather just enough food for the day, but some didn’t listen. “But some of the people did not listen to Moses and kep part of it to eat the next morning. It became full or worms and bgan to stink…” (Exodus 16:20)

Don’t we likewise? Try to solve tomorrow’s problems with today’s resources and today stinks. It gets wormy. Jesus could not have been more forthright: “Seek first God’s kingdom and what God wants. Then all your other needs will be met as well. So don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have it’s own worries. Each day has enough trouble of it’s own” (Matthew 6:33-34).

Trust God, friend. “Let us, then, feel very sure that we can come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we can recieve mercy and grace to help us when we need it.” (Hebrews 4:16, empahsis mine).

God gives grace for the moment. And in this moment, through these pages, may he amply provide for you.

Max Lucado
